Kinetica Ventures is an energy technology accelerator, and the only organization in Alberta to do comprehensive innovation de-risking and commercialization for the energy and clean tech sectors. It bridges the energy industry and technology innovators to accelerate world-class energy technologies and supports industry partners by working with technology developers who have emerging innovation that addresses industry's key challenges, lowers costs and improves competitive advantages. This unique industry-driven program works closely with key energy sector partners in four focus areas: hydrocarbon recovery and processing; energy transport; carbon capture, reuse and storage; and renewable energy. 

Kinetica Ventures was launched in 2015 through an Innovate Calgary (now Calgary Technologies) initiative to develop an energy technology accelerator program. The launch was made possible with $3 million in funding over five years from the Government of Canada. Kinetica Ventures is closely associated with University of Calgary and University of Alberta.

Kinetica Ventures guides technology developers and industry in commercializing innovation that will power a thriving and sustainable energy economy. Kinetica Ventures is the bridge for technology developers to connect with industry and move toward product adoption.

Kineticas collaborative approach includes an extensive network of global industry experts, 10 Associate Members offering over $300,000 of in-kind services and an Extended Team of business experts to accelerate commercialization.

Kinetica works with its clients to accelerate success by:

• Connecting them with potential clients, strategic partners and funders.
• Guiding them through evidence-based insights into corporate strengths and gaps.
• Accessing market intelligence to hone their value proposition, business model and growth strategy.
• Providing startup and industry experts to guide them through product development, customer acquisition and investor readiness.

Kinetica Ventures is the bridge between the energy industry and commercially de-risked technology solutions. Kinetica works with its clients and the most promising technology developers to help solve leading challenges:

• Technology Scouting – find prospective solutions and understand development potential.
• Innovation and Intrapreneurship Guidance – build growth and innovation capacity, including business model design and tools to understand customer needs

Kinetica provides its services for entrepreneurs as well as enterprises. Services for entrepreneurs are meant to accelerate their business to better meet customer needs, access targeted financing opportunities, run a successful pilot program and deliver on a progressive business model. These services are divided into four areas:

1. Corporate Fitness Assessment - helps to better understand a targeted business so a commercialization strategy can be created to move the business forward.
2. Commercialization Program - following the Corporate Fitness Assessment, there is a four-to-six month commercialization program that will guide the client, with support from experts, mentors and industry partners, to scale the business and technology.
3. Associate Member Program - provides access to critical business services such as legal, accounting, sales training, marketing, technical validation, co-working wet and mechanical lab space and more.
4. Custom Commercialization Services - If additional work is required after the commercialization program, Kinetica will customize offerings to fit the businesses' needs.

Services for enterprises are likewise divided into four areas:

1. Innovation Workshops & Sprints - provided workshops and sprints coach teams to rapidly develop and validate ideas using the latest innovative methods to get the growth results.
2. Innovation Strategy & Guidance – Kinetica works to transform innovation aspirations into a compelling strategy and actionable plan.
3. Technology Scouting – Kinetica provides a clear understanding of technology, innovation challenges and opportunities across an organization to establish priority areas. Then they co-develop challenge criteria (technical and financial) and generate a challenge statement with specific evaluation requirements for development, pilot testing or field development. Solutions Scouting - working from the challenge statement, Kinetical summarizes the range of existing technology solutions and emerging trends.
4. Accelerators for Enterprises - Kinetica Ventures can support enterprises to identify, strengthen and accelerate those emerging technology developers making real progress towards viable commercialization. This allows them to bring innovative products and services into their portfolio from the startup community and realize new business growth.
